Crikey podcast: Cut Through

🎙️I joined Crystal Andrews on the Crikey podcast ‘Cut Through' this week to discuss the themes from my recent Substack series on power, politics and leadership.

The conversation explores what I’ve seen from working close to power - as a diplomat, public servant and chief of staff - and what those experiences reveal about how political systems and power actually operate.

We discussed:
• the incentives and pressures inside political systems
• why silence can become a powerful tool in politics
• the rise of independents and what it means for the system
• and why understanding power matters if we want to create change.

The series isn’t about one party or one individual. It’s about understanding the system and culture around power.

Because if we want better government, a stronger democracy and a better country, we need to understand how power actually works — not just how we wish it worked.
